How important is the fashion trend in the life of the individual and how far will one go to set up his own style? Some choose their way of clothing in order to feel good about themselves while others do it to impress the people around them. Whatever the reason, fashion does play a significant role in the life of the individual. But how far should one go to keep up with the latest fashion trend?
Walking down the street and into the malls, you witness a variety of mixed fashion among the people. You will find the conservatives, the moderates, the fashion icons and the fashion disasters. However, at first glance, you will find many groups of fashion clones. One thing people like to do is imitate one another blindly not bothering to check if this new trend suits their age, color tone or shape.
One example is those awful colors that are invading the clothing industry, the two basically horrible colors of yellow and green matched together to form the latest trend you see among the mass. Thus, you see clones of people walking in what seems to be the flag of Brazil.
Why when it comes to fashion many of us are blinded? It is as if it is in control of us rather then the other way around. Do people actually think that keeping up with the trend will make them acceptable among the society? If this is how people perceive fashion, then they well never reach their desire goal because it’s not the clothes that makes a person but it’s the way one react and behave among others that makes the difference. Fashion is nothing but an added accessory that aids in finalizing your outer appearance but not shaping it entirely.
Moving along the concept of fashion and how people perceive it, you will find a group of people who willingly choose to stick to a particular era and time insisting on ignoring the fact that the fashion world is changing and evolving. Thus, you see those who are still in their 70’s and 80’s style refusing to accept the new changes that have came about.
While on the other hand, you will find other people who refuse to stick to a certain age cloth and will wear what is on display just to be part of the fashion cycle, not bearing in mind the age limit to the clothing items. Thus, some youngsters would wear older clothing hoping that they would age faster while the elders would blindly wear what should be worn by their kids or grand kids hoping that the clothes would mask their true age. What they lack to notice is that the clothes, accessories and make up never hides ones age.
Fashion is about choosing clothes that accentuate your personality and your cultural background. It is about emphasizing your outer appearance and marking your identity. This is what makes each individual unique and special in his own way. That why it is quite ridiculous to wear something just because one saw it on a fashion magazine or worn by a famous celebrity.
In addition, there are other facts to look upon regarding fashion and these are culture and religious aspects. Each culture differs from the other, thus what may be acceptable by some cultures might not be acceptable by others. Thus when deciding on clothes one should reconsider his background.
The second point, which I believe is most important, is religion. Muslim girls are asked to wear their hijab yet many who are in hijab are better off without it. Because they are just innovating with their style and creating their own Islamic hijab, which I think, resembles nothing to the proper Islamic clothes.
For example wearing short skimpy dresses under stretched tops and tight trousers then covering their head with hijab not only is a bad fashion statement but also does not resemble the appropriate attire of hijab dress. Moreover, it looks as if you have your entire wardrobe on and what is frustrating is the number of people who are following this trend thus making it the newest fashion in Hijab.
Fashion is about wearing what suits you as a person. It is not about imitating others blindly because what might look good on someone might not necessarily look good on you. But people tend to ignore this point and walk around as clones yet once again falling victims to their own poor judgment. And certainly fashion clones will never stand out among the mass because they will just be a replica of the next person walking next to them with no real identity to whom they really are.
Clothes do not make a person but they help give the impression you want to convey to others. It is like the outer packaging of a product displayed in a shelf of a store. Thus the way you dress up will reflect how people will view you and treat you in return. So if someone decides to wear inappropriate clothes one should not blame the people for the way they will view you and react to you. And the talk about freedom of clothing does not really apply to any society, because as humans, people are moved by what they see and you cannot control their human’s reactions.
