Terror or Terrorism

I watched a movie the other night about terrorism and it got me thinking about the causes that lead people and organizations to follow such act. Is it a retaliation to an incident that had occurred, is it a shout for a cause forcing others to listen or is it an act of power to show the world who is in control. Terrorism is derived from the word terror the very same concept that causes people to surrender to their inner fear. When one is being terrorized he either gives in or retaliates back causing a chain of reactions. Thus, this chain of fear and terror imposed upon one will move among societies leading them to an attack or defense position. Either way they will always be on the verge to react to whatever may cause a threat to their own security.

When we were young, we tried to impose our words and demands against our parents. We would fight back if we were told to finish a certain chore or if we were not allowed to go out with friends. We thought of ways of manipulations to get what we wanted. Some were merely innocent tactics but others were just brutally selfish. But at the end of the day, we got what we wanted. This may sound trivial but the concept behind going to extremes to get what you want is dangerous. It allows the person to look at ways to enforce his voice and demands among others, just so he can get his way around and prove to others who is in control.

Terror or Terrorism

But why use fear and terror to achieve your goal? Going back again to our childhood, we discover that we had lived under the rules and regulations forced upon us by our parents because they were in control and had the upper voice. We were told as kids that we had to obey them, because that was the norm and that the youngsters should listen to the elders. We feared of being grounded and punished if we disobeyed them, so we gave in to their demands. This fear was due to the lack of communication and understanding between both parent and the kids. If the parent listened, understood their kids’ demands, and tried to achieve a mutual compromise, the fear and anger inside the kids would have dissolved thus leading them to be less aggressive and easing off many misunderstandings. Instead, we witnessed many parents trying to impose their own rules and threats upon their kids out of fear over them, while kids had no clear notion as to why they had to apply them. School did not help much either because the same approach of control was applied. Once again, the teacher had the upper voice, thus having the full control to make whatever rules and regulations he/she desired. And once again, the students had to give in to these rules and abide by them. Until one day, they decide they had enough of these rules and refuse to follow them, while thinking of ways to put an end to them through rebellious actions that seemed available and convenient at the time.

Therefore, from childhood experience we can predict that the control put upon us as kids aided in building up negative reactions to our inner personality. The notion of power and having the upper voice was relived in one’s subconscious thus making one to believe that in order to be heard one had to be in full control. There was an unhidden feeling that everything was done and achieved using power. Thus, one tried as he grew up, to achieve that power status using many means of manipulations and tactics possible, and if his demands were not fulfilled, he tried to search for other possible channels to achieve it whether it was valid or not. The thing is, the victory that one witnessed when his plans were being achieved gave him a sense of super ego and that he was undefeatable and can rule the world. But subconsciously it was retaliation to the times he had unwillingly surrendered to his parent and teacher’s demands during his childhood days. It was also a strike against the weakness he felt when he was unable to defend his own thoughts and views just because he was small and vulnerable.

So once again, time passes by but the terror imposed on the individual still carries on. It starts from childhood and moves on as u grow up in age. Some can handle it in a positive manner and turning it to an advantage while others will try to erase that spot from their life through retaliation and the misuse of power. Whichever way you decide to pursue your life will determine the sequence of events that will follow. But to be able to handle the terror raised inside us one should always start from his own home, because through our homes and the concept of mutual understanding one can achieve stability. Life is a coin and you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once. It is the only coin we have and only we can determine how it will be spent.

Interesting commentary. When you talk about you and I, you are talking about rational human beings. I don’t see terrorists as rational. And you have to ask yourself, what exactly do the Islamic extremists want? To be heard? I have been conversing (online) with an extremist (I have no clue if he is a terrorist/potential terrorist or what) on his website, but he condones all the violence/jihad etc. Why? Because his goal and he claims the goal of any Muslim if they are true Muslims, is global domination. This is what he told me, and that anyone who does not want that is an apostate.

HUH? you assume because i mentioned the word terrorists then it had to be islamic extremists?? Is that what you call rational thinking.
And do you also think its rational to take an opinion of one person and generalize it as being the truth. In that case i should condemn a whole nation for the attitude of one person. Where in that do u see rational thinking?
And if you had read the article you will see that my aim was to find out the real source of terror which lead to terrorism and i didnt mean by that one specific group. So lets not base our assumptions on wrong generalizations.

So who were you referring to Mona?

And it just so happens that most terrorists and terrorist acts these days are Muslim.

And it’s not just one person.. there are hundreds of similar sites. Even Marco Villa on IB has commented that Islam will dominate the world.

We have seen throughout history many examples of terrorists and terrorism, for instance, the Crusades, the Inquisition, the New England Witch Hunts, Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mussolini, Adolf Hitler, the IRA, the Ku Klux Klan, Timothy McVeigh, David Korresh and Milosovich, just to name a few. The evil actions of those mentioned speak for themselves, with the crimes they perpetrated against humanity.
Also what happened recently in Gaza is a crime against humanity committed by israel. And hamas (the ones fighting against the occupiers) are called terrorists.
But what is a terrorist? What does terrorism mean? I’m sure the definition of terrorism is debatable.

The movie that inspired me to wrtie this article was called ”Vintage Point” in which they were talking about a group of terrorists.

As for saying that terrorists acts are soley linked to mouslims is nothing but lies that you hear everyday from those that prefer to live in denial.

And by the way why are the Israelis being convicted of war crimes for the their attack on Gaza? Isnt it because they were commiting terrorist acts? So who are the terrorists now? :)

To you, Hamas may be a terrorist but among his people he is a fighter who is defending his land.

One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. - Ronald Reagan

Where in my comment did I say solely Muslim? I said MOST terrorism and terrorists these days are Muslims, which is true. Not all. So please don’t misquote me.

And please give me the links of any non-Muslim terrorist act in the past 6 months. And we don’t agree about Israel, so leave that out. Any others?
And you didn’t answer my question, is it cool for Hamas to be harming their own people?

I just don’t understand why moderate Muslims always defend terrorism. Because of this stance, people have a tendency to lump all Muslims together, which is wrong, or is it? I’d like to think non-extremist Muslims are not the same as extremists, but you have me wondering.

LOL @ Hamas harming there people; Hamas weren’t using using the white phosphorus to kill palestinians. Israel kills palestinians and America and almost all the west did. Americans invaded two countries (Iraq and Afghanistan) and killed more than 2 millions. If that is not Terrorism then I dunno what terrorism is. STOP playing stupid, you know in your deep inside that what USA has been doing in Iraq and Afghanistan is TEROORISM. Most of the Muslims are defending themselves against the israeli terrorism in Palestine and The American terrorism in Iraq Afghanistan and the Ethioplian terrosim in Somalia. Why would USA support the Ethiopian envasion to Somalia? Why USA is attacking only Islamic countries?
the answer is easy, USA hates muslims and islamic countries.
They consider any muslim to defend his land is a terrorist, either to obey them and be called as ” moderate” or you are a terrorist. Their stupid hypocrisy will lead them to more violence. the more terror they do, the more resistance they will get.

You just reminded me by your comment that Bush used the word crusade to describe his so called ”war on terror”. The USA government is the one terrorizing the world but many are just blind.

Elmaha, they consider defending the occupation, terrorism and invading countries or occupying them as ”freedom”. if their ppl are sooo stupid to believe that then it’s not our problem. They are just ignorant ppl who try to defend their terrorism. Let them think of muslims as they want, this doesn’t change the fact of what they are. they lost the essence of their being (humanity) they are no longer human beings. Just because they are stronger, they make their own laws, they want everyone to be their slave or dog and if you tried to defend urself then ur a terrorist. Any state is based on unjustice would never last. The more they kill, the more extremists people will get. people have pride and honour, they have dignity, they will never give up, they will resist their unjustice until they win. Anyone who has lost one member of his family will revenge. Unfortunately they cudn’t understand that violence results in more violence.

The USA government is the source of terrorism, Muhammad. Every sane person knows that.
Bush’s war on terrorism like he claimed is a war on Islam and Muslims. Like I said before, he used the word crusade to describe his war on Islam and Muslims.
oh,Bush followed his bible, Muhammad :)
Deuteronomy 20:16
”However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes”

If the USA government was not terrorizing Muslims and invading their countries, there would be no alqaedah. But no matter how long this tyranny lasts, it will not last forever inshaAllah.

You cannot prove me wrong. You cannot provide enough information to support your claims against Islam, Muslims, and Palestinians. So all you could come up with is calling me ignorant which is laughable.

At the end... we are all ignorants to a certain extension... Otherwise we wouldn’t have any conflicts and the conversation would be ”what Paris Hilton will do next?”
