Is Today A Good Day to Die?

Is today a good day to die? There are so many ways one can think off to kill himself, but none of them are 100% effective. One can jump off a cliff, the roof or the balcony depending on the preference of heights. The greater the fall the higher the risk of death, but then again that’s not always the case. One can jump off a cliff and fracture few bones, while one can fall from the first floor and die in instant. So once again, one can never be certain of the accuracy. Some may choose other forms of taking away their life, like taking poisonous pills, shooting themselves at close range, cutting one’s veins, standing in front of a moving vehicle or simply hanging themselves. The point is, there are many ways for one to be innovative when deciding to end one’s life, but there is no sure way that any of these methods will work unless it is time for you to leave under the will of Allah.

Now, why would one want to end his life? Is it the stress, the depression, the guilt, the pain, the weakness and shame to face your own problems, or is it a fight for a certain cause. Well we all go through the above, how many of us have not felt stressed or depressed at least once a month. Life expectations in general can be stressful especially when you are pressured to succeed. Nevertheless, many manage to overstep these obstacles and live through it and succeed while others fail to do so. What we fail to see is that failure and defeat is simply a signal to press onward. It is not shameful to fail; it is shameful if we took it as an excuse not to move onward. Falling down does not signify failure but staying there does. Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. Do not think this world is perfect for anyone. There is no one on the face of earth who gets all that he/she wants or is free from all kinds of distress. But we should have the will to overcome these obstacles.

When one decides to end his life, so many thoughts crosses his mind, like a filmstrip passing through, with only the bad events flashing along the way, making him feel that he has reached the end of the road and is unable to turn back. A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn. And there is always a turn but we first need to have the courage and the wisdom to believe in it in order to see it. To the weak, facing the unknown is better then facing the known, because according to them what they do not know will not hurt them. But how true is that? Do we know what will happen to us when we die, do we know what will be waiting for us when we enter the other world. We can never run from our actions because it will hunt us forever. Our life does not end at our death. I do not think many are aware of that, because if we were, we would have thought twice before attempting to take our own life. I agree that stress and defeat and even the guilt we feel when hurting another and the pain of sickness can be hard to endure, but this is all part of our being and of shaping our character. What hurts us should makes us stronger not weaker. Many times we give in, out of fear of facing our own problems and as a result we choose the easy way out by ending it all. But is it really the easy way out as many may think?

On the other hand, there are people who cherish their lives and disregard the concept of suicide. How would they feel if that was taken away from them by the brutality and recklessness of human actions? You walk in the street and a crazy driver hits you and run. You go shopping and a gunman shoots you by mistake. A thief breaks in your house and kills you after stealing your belongings. A doctor gives you a wrong medicine and you die on the spot. But worse of all is when your enemy enters your land and kills over 1000 innocent civilians with a trivial excuse of mistaking the innocents for terrorists, and injuring over 5000. Now these people did not ask to die and did not ask to live in pain. So what right did it give you to take it away from them? No man should have the right to kill another whether deliberately or undeliberately or endure pain on others. Your are not the judge of this world and you are definitely not the executioner.

So, is today a good day to die? Well for those that do not fear death any day is a good day. Remember, that you are just a visitor here, a traveler passing through. Your stay is short and the moment of your departure is unknown. Therefore, any day could be your last day. We just have to go along with our life in peace until it is time to leave. And to those that want to speed death and end it with their own hands, are not aware of the fact that no matter how hard they try, they will only die when their time is up. The human character is full of ambiguity, we tend not to appreciate what we have until its is taken away from us. So live to be happy so you do not end up dead with regrets.

I think that if a person does not want to die that that person will not die, however, at some point in time that same person will not be of this earthly realm any longer. At that time he or she will no longer worry if he or she has enough to eat or whether or not the price of oil is up or down or wonder about the goodness or the badness of God or worry if the rich people or the poor people are better or worse for society or worry if he or she will live forever or die today or worry about whether any land is their ancestors land or is somebody else’s land.

Yes, I think that any of us can make ourselves believe that death only exists if we believe that it exists and I also believe that we can make ourselves believe that we will never die. I think that if a person does not want to die then that person shall not die. However, what difference do you think any of that means to any body? So, as a person ages and he becomes decrepit and blind and can no longer hear and he can no longer do anything he feels is useful to anybody or to himself why do you think that he would want to continue living his earthly life? Do you think that that same person since he convinced himself that he would never die that he could also convince himself that he would also never get old, too? Just think of it if he would never get old and he would never die then, that would mean, he would have to concern himself forever and ever with paying bills, watching everyone he knows get old and die, worrying if God likes him or not, being afraid that someone somewhere likes him or not, trying to convince non-believers to become believers in what he believes. Oh, but what is best of all for this person is that he does not ever have to worry if food or water is ever given to him because he knows he is never going to die, anyway. Isn’t that just great!

As for me, I am a very strong believer myself. I believe that God is unconcerned about such human thoughts. I also believe that I will get old because I am getting pretty darn old already and I believe that someday I will die. I do not concern myself with any afterlife. I concern myself with this earthly realm because this is where I find myself at this time. Living forever does not appeal to me. But, if you do want to live forever, well, my friend go for it!

What is that old Chinese proverb? You know the one I am speaking, something about ‘Be careful what you wish for because it might just come true!’ Never dieing might come true for you and you just might regret that it did.

Hmmm thanks for the reply although it was a bit confusing, I never said i wanted to live forever or die this moment. I think my article was self explanatory. That we will all die when it is time to die. We have no say as to when and how we will die.
